On Thursday Walker will be having his annual "performance review" in front of his real bosses. No, not the people of Wisconsin, the insidious business lobby group Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC).

In protest the Wisconsin Wave will lead a picket and rally outside of the event to further expose and delegitimize this secretive, reactionary institution which literally wrote and funded most of the anti-worker, anti-family, anti-Wisconsin legislation forced through the legislature this past year.

WMC and its undisclosed industry backers are the entities who really run the show in Wisconsin, no matter who is in power. Join us as we call out WMC for their role in buying our democracy (more on this below) and advancing their extremist right-wing agenda.

Where does WMC stand? Just check out what their website says:

  • They brag that "At WMC's urging, Legislature passes no-tax-hike state budget, a property tax freeze, and an $80 million corporate tax cut."
  • Earlier this month WMC issued a press release with the headline "WMC Lauds Assembly Passage of Iron Mining Reform Bill "
  • In their annual report WMC lauds Governor Walker for passing the budget repair bill because it will "diminish the strength and power of public employee unions in Wisconsin"
  • The list goes on and on...

Q: How does WMC influence our democracy?
A: Big $$$ and Big time lobbying

  • WMC has spent over $9 million in the past five years to influence our elections, at least $2 million of that going to Walker and his extremist legislative allies in the 2010 election cycle. (Source: http://www.wisdc.org/wmc2010.html)
  • WMC spent almost half a million dollars and 3,314 hours lobbying the legislature in 2011 to ensure passage of their devastating agenda. That works out to over 9 hours of lobbying and $1,200 per day! Most Wisconsinites have the sense our democracy can be bought, and now we know the price...
