To follow up on a Week of Action devoted to commemorating and celebrating what the Wisconsin Uprising accomplished this past year, a public meeting will be held to brainstorm where it should head in the future.  In particular, the growing reality of a gubernatorial recall and four additional senate recalls presents our movement with important and urgent questions:

  • What are the long-term goals of the movement and how does an electoral strategy relate to those goals?
  • What tactics can the movement use to ensure that the recall elections stay relevant to all of the movement’s issues and demands?
  • Beyond the current electoral picture, how can the grassroots energy that’s come out this movement be used to win long-term structural changes to our democracy and society?

The planning session on Sunday will attempt to begin addressing these and other questions, but will also be a forum to prepare for a future large-scale inclusive people’s assembly dubbed the “WisConvocation.”  At the WisConvocation participants from around the state will have the opportunity to deliberate on issues of public concern and formulate proposals for action such as a People’s Budget, People’s Platform, and a list of movement demands for candidates participating in the 2012 recall elections.
